Ghana is Better than Nigeria – Former Chelsea Player

Year award Former Chelsea FC of England star Michael Essien says his country Ghana are better footballing side than Nigeria as the countdown for the 2017 African Nations Cup championship begins.

While speaking with the BBC, the Panathinaikos midfielder says the Black Stars are a better side than the Super Eagles despite them not winning the Nations Cup for over 30 years. Nigeria won the African Nations Cup in 2013 under Late Stephen Keshi and the Super Eagles have missed out in the following two editions including Gabon 2017. Ghana on the other hand won the African Nations cup last in 1963 when they hosted the tournament.
”I think I was not yet born the last time we won the Nations Cup, but still we are better than Nigeria as far as football is concerned,”

Essien told the BBC. Michael Essien also revealed his top five nominees for the 2016 African footballer of the year award in which his former teammate at Chelsea John Obi Mikel was included. Others named were Victor Wanyama of Kenya, Aubameyang of Gabon, Riyad Mahrez of Algeria and Andrew Ayew of Ghana.
