Angry Rawlings wants Menzgold to clear his name from ‘silly’ list

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has vehemently rejected a suspicious list making rounds on social media suggesting he has thousands of cedis stashed with Menzgold Ghana Limited.

Brimming with anger, the former president wants his name cleared from the list containing names of past and present politicians allegedly having millions of investments with Menzgold as well as those whose political campaign was supposedly sponsored by the CEO of Menzgold Nana Appiah Mensah.

According to the list, Mr. Rawlings has savings up to GHc 400,000 with the gold dealership firm. But the former president has in a tweet described the list as “silly”.

He maintained that he is not one of Menzgold’s customers, adding he will not deal in questionable ventures.

“Shouldn’t Menzgold be reacting to this silly list making the rounds on social media? I do not have a stash anywhere to waste on questionable ventures and doubt others on the list involved themselves in this mess,” Mr. Rawlings tweeted.

Even though some people are treating the list with contempt, a source at the Office of Former President Rawlings noted that it was necessary for him to clear his name because “unfortunately people take some of these stupid staff serious”.

Hundreds of Ghanaians have their investments worth millions of cedis locked up in Menzgold after the Security and Exchange Commission instructed the company to stop trading in gold because it has no licence to do so.

Meanwhile the Ghana Police Service has secured a warrant to arrest the company’s runaway Chief Executive Officer. Nana Appiah Mensah is currently being sought after by Interpol in over 190 countries.
