Drake tops Channel O’s Top 30 Chart with God’s Plan!
It was inevitable that Drake’s latest banger, God’s Plan, would end up at the top of the Channel O Top 30 Chart! Dreezy launched in 2018 with the release of the single that shot straight to digital charts and streaming platforms worldwide, adding to the Canadian’s rapper’s growing catalogue of #1 singles. Having topped the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in 2015 with One Dance, a DJ Maphorisa produced Afrobeats flavoured bop, God’s Plan saw Drake return to the top spot for the second time with a solo project.
The song debuted at #2 on the Top 30 last week, coming shy of premiering at the top, where Prince Kaybee’s Club Controller dominated the chart. Club Controller slides down one place to the second spot this week, as the chart-topping House music producer moves on from another heated feud with DJ Shimza, whom he says “misled” the public by not dishing out the correct information about the song.
Shimza wasn’t happy about the fact that Prince Kaybee blocked him on Twitter and Instagram, slamming the act as “petty”. Read more here
Ed Sheeran climbs up one spot to the 3rd position this week with Perfect, one of the biggest songs in 2017. Down one position is Maradona by Niniola, who continues enjoying unprecedented South African chart success for a Nigerian female artist with the breakout hit. Bruno Mars endured some Twitter backlash earlier this week from those who insist he is benefiting from cultural appropriation. Fresh from his Grammys sweep in February, Mars’ latest outfit with Cardi B, Finnesse, solidifies his commercial appeal as he moves up one place this to round off the top 5.
