President Tinubu Suspends Betta Edu, Minister Of Humanitarian Affairs

The President has directed the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into all aspects of the financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, as well as one or more agencies falling under its purview.

In accordance with his unwavering commitment to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in the management of the nation’s resources, President Bola Tinubu has suspended the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, from office with immediate effect.

The suspended Minister is hereby instructed to hand over her duties to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. Additionally, President Tinubu has urged Dr. Betta Edu to fully cooperate with the investigating authorities as they carry out their inquiry.

Moreover, the President has constituted a panel, chaired by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, with the primary responsibility of conducting a thorough diagnostic assessment of the financial architecture and framework of the social investment programs. The goal is to implement conclusive reforms within the relevant institutions and programs, addressing any institutional frailties and aiming to restore lost public confidence in the initiative, especially for the exclusive benefit of disadvantaged households.

These directives from the President are effective immediately.
