An engineer working with Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, Anambra State, Emeka Chiaghana, has been abducted from his house by suspected kidnappers.

It was gathered that the victim was abducted by two persons at his house in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the incident, the acting Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mrs Chika Ene described the incident as disturbing.

She said the university is working round the clock with the aid of security agencies to ensure that the victim is released.

“The university is aware of the incident. We’re deeply worried and concerned about it. We’re in daily contact with the security agencies on the matter,” Mrs. Ene said on Tuesday.

The victim’s wife, Chiazor Chiaghana, said her husband had brought her and the children home from the hospital around 9:15pm on Monday and excused himself to see off his friend that visited.

She added: “He came back around 10.45pm after seeing his friend off and was about to open the gate when my mother-in-law, who was upstairs, saw two men jump out from a nearby farm and ambushed him.

“He was immediately driven away by the abductors to an unknown destination

“My husband’s absence has been devastating. We have three kids, the first is just seven years old. I have absolute faith in God that he’s still alive and believe in prayers.”

While saying that the matter has been reported to the police as well as the local vigilante operatives in the community, Mrs Chiaghana called on security agencies to intensify efforts in rescuing her husband.

Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, for confirmation of the incident failed as his telephone line was not available.
